Getting Cold
1.
Hang a blanket or similar
item over the backflow preventer. This is the brass and copper device where
the water comes out of the house. This is similar to putting a sheet over
flowers or plants to keep frost off. It helps keep warmer air in and colder
air away from the metal pipes. The lines under the ground have absolutely
no worry about freezing for quite some time yet.
2.
Run your system for 30
seconds or so in the early morning before work and in the evening before bedtime.
This will flush warmer water into the backflow preventer and require much
more time for water to freeze up. If you wish you may also set up a start
time for the middle of the night and have only one zone run for one minute
but it’s really not necessary.
With just a couple minutes of
prevention, you can assure a smooth transition into winter. It seems that every
year we get a couple of cold days before the end of the season so keep these
tips in mind for the future. We will have all our blow outs wrapped up by
Thursday or Friday at the latest so if you haven’t heard from us yet, hang
tight, you will soon.
As always, thanks for your
continued business and we will talk to you soon.
